Westchester Disabled on the Move, Inc. Housing Specialist’s role is strictly information and referral. Our Information & Referral program provides tools and opportunities for connecting our community partners with each other. Information and Referral Service is an initiative on information pertaining to affordable housing. The service provides individual consultations on available applications, assistance on filling out the applications and inquires on referral information such as Eviction’s, arrears, and legal services. Our organization does not guarantee housing placement; we are not a Real Estate Agency or Broker.

The Process: To assist disabled consumers who are in need of housing. Consumers meet with the Housing Specialist to discuss their housing issues. Based on that discussion, the Housing Specialist provides the consumers with resources to help them go about the task of finding an apartment. We do ask that you do not come in with high expectations! Meetings with the Housing Specialist usually last about one hour. The Housing Specialist does not visit consumers at home.

Often, the Housing Specialist conducts a Housing Workshop in the conference room at WDOMI. During most workshops, a guest speaker is invited to address consumers about some housing-related issues. A question and answer session follows the guest speaker’s presentation. The Housing workshops are followed by the Housing Specialist and WDOMI’s Systems Advocate’s short program on Information and referral for consumers. Light Refreshments are served at the end of the workshop. The workshop is a great opportunity for consumers to talk to each other, and share concerns.
