The Statewide Systems Advocacy Network (SSAN) is a movement of Independent Living Centers and grassroots advocates working for the full inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas of life. The SSAN is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities in New York State by removing barriers and opposing all forms of systemic segregation. The SSAN advocates for legislation, public policy and practices in the following areas:
Housing*Health Care*Election Reform*Civil Rights Employment*Education*Transportation*Funding &Budget Issues
WDOMI has a local network of volunteer advocates who work with the center to promote the goals of the SSAN. Volunteers participate primarily by responding to action alerts. These alerts typically consist of making phone calls and sending e-mails to elected officials. Volunteers are also given the opportunity to attend meetings at the center whereby the volunteers decide which areas they would like to focus on and recieve training on topics relating to systems advocacy. Volunteers are also encouraged to attend meetings with their elected officials as well as join advocates in Albany for conferences and rallies.
Everyone is encouraged to join WDOMI’s network of volunteer advocates. Email our Systems Advocate, Achille Iolascon, directly at: firstname.lastname@example.org with any and all questions, comments and concerns and ask to be placed on the SSAN email list. Or you may call him at 914-968-4717 (x104).
