Westchester Disabled on the Move Hosts Forum with 16th District Congressional Candidates

Focus to be Accessibility for People with Disabilities

Westchester County, NY – October 23, 2024 – Westchester Disabled on the Move, an advocacy group for people with disabilities, has invited Congressional candidates in the 16th Congressional District to discuss accessibility in housing, transportation and voting among other issues facing people with disabilities.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Dr. Miriam Levitt Flisser, a Scarsdale pediatrician, will participate in the virtual forum on Friday, October 25, from 2-3 p.m. Visit https://wdom.org/ to learn how to register for the event.

Latimer, a former marketing executive who grew up in Mount Vernon, has held elected offices in Westchester for more than 35 years, including Rye City Councilman, Westchester County Legislator, NYS Assemblyman, NYS Senator followed by his election to Westchester County Executive in 2017.  A Democrat, Latimer prides himself on three decades of public service and his deep commitment to local community needs and his ability to deliver real results for his constituents.

Dr. Miriam Levitt Flisser is a pediatrician from Scarsdale who ran for the same congressional seat in 2022. She served one term as Scarsdale mayor from 2011 to 2013 and served as trustee for two terms from 2007-2011. She’s a registered independent, running on the Republican ballot line. A physician, she is a practicing pediatrician and serves as Medical Director of Bronxville School District.

Maria Samuels, Executive Director of Westchester Disabled On the Move Inc., said,

“It’s important for people with disabilities to have all the information they need about registering to vote and the voting process in 2024,” said Samuels. “We want them to feel empowered to vote, so that they can support political candidates who will best represent them.’’

Early voting in Westchester begins on October 26. The 16th District includes southern Westchester County and a sliver of the north Bronx.
