We are excited to announce that our wonderful partner, The Westchester Council of the Blind of New York (WCBNY) is planning to host the American Council of the Blind of New York (ACBNY) convention here in Yonkers in October.
“It has been quite a few years since Westchester has hosted an ACBNY convention, but we are bringing the 2026 ACBNY State Convention to the Courtyard by Marriott on Executive Boulevard in Yonkers from October 8th through October 11th. We are particularly excited to put together a conference that is heavily focused on blind tech. And we are very interested in showing off Westchester to members from around the state,’’ said WCBNY President Rodney Stanford.
WCBNY is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) dedicated to improving the lives and enhancing the independence of blind and visually impaired residents of Westchester, the Lower Hudson Valley, and beyond. They do this primarily through socialization and peer-to-peer support among their members, and through advocacy. WCBNY works with local municipalities, and especially with Westchester County on important local topics. It works through our state organization, ACBNY, and through our national organization, the American Council of the Blind (ACB).
WCBNY is the fastest-growing chapter (and second largest) in the state, with Rodney serving as President and WCBNY Vice President Martin Cahill serving as legislative chair. At present, they are working on advocacy efforts aimed at transportation, accessible prescription labeling, infant vision screening, electronic ballot return, and more.
