What We Do

Westchester Disabled On the Move, Inc., established in 1984, is a not-for-profit community-based organization dedicated to providing accessible and affordable housing for individuals with disabilities. It serves as a non-residential center advocating for people with disabilities and operates as part of a national network of Independent Living Centers committed to promoting independence and equal rights. WDOM is distinctive in that it is primarily staffed and governed by individuals with disabilities. The programs and services offered by WDOM, including its role as a Community Health Advocate (CHA) and its dedicated disability advocacy, are provided free of charge to consumers with disabilities and their families. WDOMI upholds a policy of non-discrimination based on age, sex, disability, race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion. Funding for Westchester Disabled On the Move Inc. is sourced from the New York State Education Department, as well as from private individuals, companies, and foundations that endorse the principles of the independent living philosophy.
