It’s been a busy few months for Westchester Disabled on the Move as we partnered with several organizations to prevent massive cuts to Medicaid in the NYS Budget. On March 15 we held a rally at our headquarters and were joined by State Senator Shelley Mayer, NYS Assemblymembers Chris Burdick, Dana Levenberg, Nader Sayegh and MaryJane Shimsky, Westchester County Legislative Chairman Vedat Gashi, County Legislator Judah Holstein, White Plains Common Council Members Victoria Presser and Jeremiah Frei-Pearson and representatives from 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East to urge Governor Kathy Hochul to reverse the detrimental cuts to New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP). While we did not get everything we wanted, the final budget was improved over the original which contained over $1 billion in cuts to Medicaid. The jury is still out on CDPAP but regardless of the outcome, we will still be fighting for access to healthcare for our constituents. Many thanks to our legislators and the public who lobbied for our cause.
