Everyone Deserves to Live Independently! This is why Housing Advocacy is important to WDOM.
Westchester Disabled on the Move, Inc. Housing Advocacy Program is primarily information and referral. Our Information & Referral provides tools and opportunities for connecting our community partners. Information and Referral Service is an initiative on affordable and accessible housing. Our organization does not guarantee housing placement; we are not a real estate agency or broker.
The Process: To assist consumers with disability who need housing. Consumers meet with the Housing Advocate to discuss their housing issue. Based on that discussion, the Housing Advocate provides the consumers with resources to help find an apartment, prevent eviction, resolve landlord issues, etc. We do ask that you do not come in with unrealistic expectations! Meetings with the Housing Advocate usually last about one hour. The Housing Advocate does not visit consumers at home.
Periodically, the Housing Advocate conducts a Housing Workshop virtually or in our conference room. During most workshops, a guest speaker is invited to address consumers about housing-related issues. A question-and-answer session follows the guest speaker’s presentation. The workshop is an excellent opportunity for consumers to connect and share concerns.
